Susan W. Wong is the Diplomat in Residence for Northern and Central California..
Susan W. Wong is a career Foreign Service Officer with over 21 years of experience at the U.S. Department of State. She is the current Diplomat in Residence covering Northern and Central California, recruiting diverse talent for career and student program opportunities with the U.S. Department of State.
Susan recently completed 3.5 years in Europe as the Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Riga, Latvia. She led a team of Foreign Service Generalists, Specialists and local nationals overseeing a myriad of the Embassy’s internal operations.
In addition to various positions in Washington DC, Susan’s overseas assignments with the Department of State include Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Istanbul, Turkey. Susan has been trained in Chinese-Mandarin, Vietnamese, Turkish and Latvian.
Susan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University and spent multiple years in the private sector before joining the Department of State. As a Management Consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their New York and New Jersey offices, she worked with clients in the pharmaceutical, industrial and telecommunications sectors. As a 1.5 generation immigrant from Hong Kong, Susan grew up in Queens, New York and is a product of the city’s public education system. Susan is excited to be in California and eager to share her experiences with the U.S. Department of State.
