Department of State, United States of America

The U.S. Department of State, America’s principal foreign affairs agency, is seeking a new generation of accomplished, creative, and bold professionals for domestic and international positions. There is no country in the world today that is not touched by America, and there is no country that does not touch us in some way.

Diplomat in Residence Program

Ryan M. Gliha

Ryan M. Gliha is the Diplomat in Residence for the Northwest.

There are many ways you can benefit from the Department of State’s Diplomat in Residence (DIR) program. This year, Ryan will:

  • Represent the Department of State at Career Fairs and other events
  • Engage in outreach to underrepresented students
  • Guide candidates through the Foreign Service application and examination process
  • Inform students about internship opportunities with the Department of State
  • Hold student appointments, and answer staff, faculty, and student questions via email

Ryan welcomes inquiries and referrals from the university community. However, because he covers a large territory from his base at Cal, he urges you to review the links below before making an inquiry. Ryan can be contacted via email at DIRNorthwest@state.gov.

The DIR Office is located in Berkeley Career Engagement.
