Postdocs & Visiting Student Researchers are eligible for nearly all Berkeley Career Engagement Services offered to registered Cal students including access to Handshake (includes job listings), counseling, workshops, career fairs, and other employer events. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility for services, please send an email to the Visiting Scholars and Postdoc Affairs office (VSPA).

To access these services, Postdocs and Visiting Student Researchers must have been in residence at UC Berkeley for a minimum of three months, have an @berkeley.edu email address that has been reported to VSPA, and added it to her/his Gateway record. VSPA provides Berkeley Career Engagement with a file of eligible affiliates on a quarterly basis, and until you have reported your @berkeley.edu email address to VSPA, you will not be able to login to Handshake or schedule an appointment.

Please follow the instructions below:

  • Appointments
30 minute, 1:1, confidential appointments with a PhD counselor

To make an appointment, you must have an active account in Handshake (Berkeley Career Engagement’s online platform). After you login, select Career center on the right of the page. When the next page appears, select the Appointments link (left-hand side) and follow the instructions.

  • Handshake

Login to Handshake using your campus CalNet ID and Passphrase. If you experience difficulty, contact the VSPA office to verify your eligibility.
