Cal Peace Corps Representative
The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then-Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship.
Since that time, 220,000+ Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 140 host countries to work on issues ranging from education to health outreach and environmental preservation.
Today’s Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as community economic development, and contributing to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities.

Sean Murphy, Regional Recruiter, Office of Recruitment and Diversity
Sean Murphy is a Regional Recruiter for the Peace Corps. He welcomes referrals and inquiries from the university community.
Sean was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Azerbaijan from 2009-2011. He was a Youth Development sector volunteer and focused on gender inclusion in sports as well as civic engagement for young adults. Sean is currently based in Sacramento and supports Peace Corps recruitment throughout Northern California.
