Assistant Director for Health Careers
Education
M.S. Counseling with specialization in Career and College, San Francisco State University
B.A. Psychology from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN
How did you get here?
I began working with undergraduate students and in community mental health when I was in college. After meeting with my career counselor and having conversations about my professional passions, I realized that career counseling was the path I wanted to take. I completed a Masters program that focused on developing clinical counseling skills but that had a curriculum focused on career development. I gained career counseling experience in graduate school internships and in a position that followed at UC Davis. At Berkeley Career Engagement, I am currently a Pre-Health careers advisor, supporting students pursuing pathways into healthcare. Prior to BCE, I worked as an L&S academic advisor, which allowed me to understand the student experience more holistically at Cal.
What’s cool about your job?
I find so much fulfillment and joy in helping others discover their passions, skills, and goals. I strive to work with students to develop their understanding of themselves, provide education on the occupational landscape, and connect them with resources and opportunities.
What’s the best career advice anyone has given you?
Be mindful and reflect on your experiences – part time jobs, volunteer work, internships, etc. While some work experiences may have been to just make money in the summer, the skills and experiences gained can be valuable when mapping out your future career. I still reflect on my first job at DQ as instrumental in developing customer service and management skills that have aided in my current career.
