How did you get here?
After being a stay-at-home parent for many years, I returned to the workforce in the legal field as a paralegal. The change of profession was exciting, as I had worked as an Endoscopy Technician in the medical field for a considerable number of years before starting a family. While working in the legal field, I gained a great deal of knowledge; however, I knew early on that I wanted to work in higher education. When the opportunity presented itself, I applied to the University of California, Berkeley, and here I am.
Who do you work with? What’s cool about your job?
I currently work with the Employer Relations team, which involves establishing career fairs in Handshake, collaborating with student volunteers, assisting employers with navigating Handshake, and working closely with the counseling team.
What’s cool about my job is that I get to work on a supportive team on a beautiful campus filled with scholars from around the globe. It’s also exciting to work with employers offering opportunities to help students apply their education to career paths.
What’s the best career advice anyone has given you?
My sister has a saying I’ve applied to every aspect of my life, including my career, ” When you are on time, you are late. When you are early, you are on time.” This saying is near and dear as it reminds me of the importance of being prepared and giving yourself the grace to start and finish strong. How you position yourself sets the stage for how you will approach deadlines and other responsibilities.
Interests/Hobbies
I am a crafter. I enjoy creating and using my imagination, from baking to spending the afternoon making shirts with my sublimation printer. I enjoy spending time exploring National Parks, my favorite being Yosemite. Over the years, Curry Village has become my second home. I also find enjoyment and peace of mind in writing.
